is the capital of the Province of Loja and has a rich tradition in the arts, and for this reason is known as the Musical and Cultural Capital of Ecuador . City is home to two major universities: Universidad Nacional and Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, considered among the ten largest in the country, besides its development and geographical location was named administrative center of the southern region or region 7 including the provinces of El Oro , Loja and Zamora Chinchipe.
The city has great tourist attractions because of its art and culture, that we felt mainly in the Historic Center, knowing that it is also surrounded by people with a rich tradition as Saraguro and Vilcabamba. In the province of Loja there are many sites of interest to visit as Vilcabamba, a small town in which they live several people who have more than 100 years. This has led many foreigners reside in this population.
Podocarpus National Park is located a few kilometers from the city and is often recognized by the vast variety of flora, fauna and ecosystems. Another site of interest is the petrified forest Puyango. More information
